CSV TB Import - Error reason

I have spent more of my life than I am comfortable with attempting to import a CSV file TB. The software just says that there is 'Invalid content' and makes no effort to tell me what the invalid content is. I've spent the last 4 hours individually trying each element of the import to try to find the problem and I am still not any closer to succeeding. You either need a better error message that specifies the issue or at the very least a proper help article explaining common issues with imports.

As I have just made this idea publicly available, my comments are for all who might be reading this idea to allow them to vote and include their own take. The current import routine is very basic and not something we promote as a feature within Accounts Production as it is not to the standard that is expected. We expect most people at this point to be entering the Source data manually.

As mentioned we are currently working on improving this to cater for imports from elsewhere and we hope to see some of these changes released post January.

The current import allows for trial balances from IRIS Accounts Production or PTP Accounts Production to be imported with little user invention. Any other imports will need amending to match that format or they will receive hte errors as you describe which are of little value. I felt by linking to the help article anyone else who may come across this idea may have some guidance if they decided to try it.

@Alex John, just to be clear, my comments were all based on already knowing all that you have said, and after reading the article linked. Your reply 14 Dec 12:52 is not addressing my comments at all and we are still at square one / the issue still stands.

More specifically the three column detail you have provided is failing to cover a wide range of reasons why data in those columns might be rejected. e.g. description too long, description contains characters that are now allowed, the number format is wrong, the code (sub code) needs to go under the main code on its own line etc. etc.

The guidance you linked is insufficient to cover all possible data validation errors, if it was, I would not have raised this particular concern.

Within Accounts Production only 1 format is currently allowed.

Column A - Account (this must match the IRIS ELTD chart codes)

Column B - Description, the account description for example

Column C - Amount, credits must have a - in front of them

Please review this help guide for further details: https://help-iris.co.uk/elements/accountsprod/import-trial-balance-data-from-csv.htm#Preparin

We are currently working on enhacing CSV imports, to allow alternative layouts and charts
