Big frustration for me. A sole trader business is the individual, they do not need to be created as 2 separate clients. Apart from using up 2 clients for those who have a limited number on their subscription, its duplicating the same info and needs to be manually entered.
Why was TaxFiler changed to the enth degree when it was a brilliant piece of software. Don't fix it if it's not broken....
Definitely agree - just moved from Taxfiler and feel this was a bit of a downgrade in terms of workflow. I know that you need to complete accounts per trade in some circumstances, but I can't see how that couldn't be facilitated by replicating taxfiler's 'accounts' section, and allowing more than one to feed into a tax return.
Or if more than one trade is required, it has to be separate - 90% of my sole trade clients are now more clicks, work and a generally longer time to complete due to this 'upgrade'.
Totally agree TaxFile was much simpler without the need for duplicate client records, however I realise accounts production needs to be per trade so understand why this was implemented. Perhaps we can have accounts production noticing that if there are multiple trades then multiple acounts might be required?
Please note, we will in the next few weeks introduce changes to help with this area - you will be able to create self employment pages without linking to a Sole Trade. This will negate the need for a duplicate Sole Trade client in a lot of cases. However, where Accounts/VAT work is completed in Elements for the Sole Trade, the separation will need to remain.
Yes Please ... Taxfiler was much simpler and I fail to understand the need??
Agree strongly with this, its such a terrible system and complicated for no real reason. Please fix.
agree on this point, I have just migrated over 100 clients and now I have to setup numerous self employments, a total waste of my time. In addition I have also had to ‘create’ over 100 tax returns as there is no way to do this automatically. Again a waste of time; the product has not been thought out!
Agree all these points, have just been forced to migrate as no time to look at other packages in middle of tax return season, thought I had about 40 clients now have 69! We have another practice currently using TF that has a lot more clients so not been forced to migrate yet, this is going to be confusing with so many extra clients created!
This also links to the really anoying problem of having to create the sole trade in the first place just to get self employment pages on the tax return. We have clients that do their own self employment stuff and just give us the numbers, having to use up a licence to make a sole trade is frustrating.
I agree with this but also bear in mind we don't want to get rid of individual as we still need something for the ltd's etc in relation to the purposes of Self assessment, for example, the directors who also are directors of another company and may also do their own sole trader thing on the side. Unless when we link the relationships it will bring all that information in.
Totally agree with this!
Agreed, it is like an accountant has not looked at this software before being released
Yes definitely! I have one client who has several micro-businesses and I need to create 6 "clients" for actually one person!
